2025 Statement of Intent - Max Locke

I, Max Locke, am submitting my Statement of Intent to run for the Board of Directors.

I am submitting this Statement of Intent to request your consideration for a position on the 2025 DMS Board Of Directors.

When I first joined DMS, I scratched my head and asked myself, “how in the heck does an volunteer-led organization of this size run itself?” So I got involved. While there have been frustrating times… along with the “making,” working on the operations of this organization has been fascinating.

Qualifications:

Serving as the 2024-2025 DMS Secretary. This role has given me considerable exposure to the inter-workings of DMS administration;

Active participant within numerous DMS Committees; and

My day job: As a Management Consultant, I have considerable experience with governance, marketing, operations, finance, etc. within a wide range of businesses.

The main thing I have learned is there is no shortage of absolutely great ideas for DMS. However, this is a volunteer organization and as such, unless someone or a group of people owns that idea, it will likely be just talk. My main focus on day one will be Volunteers - identifying them, motivating them, acknowledging them, supporting them, removing roadblocks, etc. Can a single Board Member do that alone?, No. But a great set of Board members and Officers sure can facilitate it.

2024-2025 has been a stressful financial year for DMS - reluctantly, a rate increase will go into effect in April. However, with it will come the flexibility to focus on growing the membership and expanding the capabilities of DMS - so we can “make.” Member growth and capability growth will be a focus for me.

By the time a reader gets to this point in a Statement of Intent, their attention is waning. If you have questions, reach out on Talk or Discord, find me in the halls, catch me in a committee meeting, let’s chat…

Thanks for the time
